Residential Design: J. Visser Design

A Grand Rapids landmark, the David M. and Hattie Amberg House (1910) was commissioned to renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright but ultimately completed by his colleagues Marion Mahony and Herman von Holst after Wright left the States in 1909 to travel Europe. The home is situated a few short blocks from Wright’s Meyer May House (1909), designed for the Ambergs’ daughter and son-in-law. New Urban was hired by the current owner of the Amberg House to construct a garage that would look authentic to the historical structure. Our work involved a creative construction process and painstaking attention to detail. Bricks were color-matched and raked, fascia inverted and the foundation fortified to match the home’s original features.
